This August, we’re shining a spotlight on our rare wine, Block D Merlot.

Merlot has often been underestimated. However, at Helen & Joey Estate, we believe this variety deserves renewed attention, especially when grown with precision and care in the Yarra Valley.

A Unique Approach in the Vineyard

Our vineyard team, led by Jamie and Micah, has worked extensively within the Block D vineyard using a specialised cane pruning and training system across two trellis wires.

This approach encourages more even vine growth and helps achieve consistent ripeness across every grape bunch. As a result, the fruit develops greater balance, concentration and structure before harvest.

The attention to detail in the vineyard plays a major role in shaping the final wine.

Rare Wine Tasting at Helen & Joey Estate

Block D Merlot is produced as a small reserve selection with limited availability.

Because of the tiny production volumes, this rare wine is only occasionally available for tasting at Cellar Door. This makes August a special opportunity to experience the wine in a more intimate setting.

Guests can expect silky tannins, plush plum fruit and a savoury edge that gives the wine both elegance and depth.
