Experience that encompasses wine-making techniques from some of the world’s top wineries and spans more than twenty years and three continents is something few wineries as young as Helen and Joey Estate can boast. And there’s a good reason for that; they don’t all have Meg Brodtmann.
H&J Estate is proud to introduce you to our Senior Winemaker: Meg Brodtmann MW.
Meg began her winemaking career in Australia before making a name for herself across Europe and South America as winemaking consultant for Cellarworld International in the UK. Her knowledge of wine saw Meg not only define wine styles for the burgeoning UK market but also be a wine judge with the International Wine Challenge (UK) and various wine magazines (Decanter, La Cav and Wine State).
In 2001 Meg moved to Chile where she spent the next 7 years working as a senior winemaker, broker and consultant which included two years working at Viña Morandé in the Cachapoal Valley: an 11 million litre capacity winery. Meg also established her own winemaking and wine education company – Southern Cross Wines – where she developed and delivered programmes across Latin America including Chile and Brazil on behalf of the Wine School and created the first approved programmes for The Wine and Spirit Education Trust.
Meg has won the Deinhard Award for Best Dissertation from the Institute of Masters of Wine and her years of hard work and talent culminated in Meg becoming Australia’s first female Master of Wine.
Upon her return to Australia in 2008 as a renowned and respected member of the Australian and international wine industry, Meg re-established Southern Cross Wines (Australia). Since then she has worked with Cellarmaster Wines as their Victorian Brand Champion and teaches WSET Levels 2 to 4 (Diploma) in Melbourne. Meg also has the distinction of being involved in training potential WSET Educators and is actively involved in the Master of Wine educational programme as the Chief Examiner for Paper 2 of the Masters of Wine examination.
Thoroughly distinguished throughout her career, Meg is currently the Chair of the and judges at various regional and international wine shows. Meg is involved with the Master of Wine Australasian Events Committee and the annual Education Residential Seminar.
And as if her impressive array of skills, experience and knowledge of wine wasn’t enough to be getting on with Meg is also an absolute delight to be around. Her passion for wine is infectious and greatly benefits her as a brand ambassador for Helen and Joey – of course her flair also brings that extra touch of exquisiteness to our wines
We believe our wines tell a story and whether it is through her rich experience in wine-making or natural ability we can’t think of a better storyteller than Meg.
