Adam McCallum brings a wealth of experience and a deep connection to the Yarra Valley to his role as Winemaker at Helen & Joey Estate, joining the estate in 2024.
Born and raised in the Yarra Valley, Adam first discovered wine through local hospitality before a chance encounter with renowned winemaker Steve Webber led to his first vintage at De Bortoli Wines. That experience sparked a winemaking career spanning more than two decades and some of Australia and Europe’s most respected wineries.
Throughout his career, Adam has worked with leading producers including Yarra Yering, McPherson Wines, Frankland Estate in Western Australia and Domaine Matrot in Burgundy. He also spent more than ten years working alongside Clare Halloran at TarraWarra Estate, refining his approach to site-expressive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Yarra Valley.
Guided by respected mentors including Steve Webber, Dr Bailey Carrodus, William Downie and Timo Mayer, Adam has developed a winemaking philosophy grounded in minimal intervention and a strong focus on vineyard expression. His approach centres on balance, elegance and authenticity, allowing the fruit and vintage to speak clearly in every wine.
At Helen & Joey Estate, Adam continues to lead the winemaking program with a calm and thoughtful approach. He believes great wine should be approachable, expressive and honest, regardless of price point. With deep regional knowledge and a strong respect for the land, Adam is helping shape the next chapter of winemaking at Helen & Joey Estate and across the Re’em, Alicorn, Unicorn and Wayward Child ranges.
