The art of drinking our premium Yarra Valley wines is one that requires all your five senses. For your next glass take inspiration from the 15th Century Lady and the Unicorn tapestries.
Probably by now you all know that Helen & Joey Winery has a complete adoration for the unicorn but do you know that we area also inspired by the 15th Century Lady and the Unicorn tapestries?
The six medieval tapestries hang in in the Musée National du Moyen Age (aka Cluny Museum) in Paris and, among other things, the six tapestries represent the five senses – taste, touch, smell, sound and sight – with the sixth tapestry representing desire.
We believe that to truly enjoy our premium Yarra Valley wines you need to draw upon all your senses to savour the colours, the aromas, the flavours and the experience as a whole.
So for your next wine hopefully ours – or one from the other leading Yarra Valley Wineries – take the time to immerse yourself in a mindful experience with your whole being – touch, sound, sight, scent and taste – and your desire for fine wine will surely grow.
Here’s how to have a mindful wine experience
So select your wine glass – take the time to feel the fine delicateness of the glass in comparison to the weight and sturdiness of the wine bottle.
Listen to the satisfying crack as you twist the wine lid open, and hear the wine swirling into the glass as you pour.
Lift the glass into the light to marvel at its colours – the pale golds of our Chardonnay to the crimson reds of our Pinot Noir.
Now time to engage your sense of smell – swirl the wine in your glass to help the wine’s bouquet reach your nose.
Lift the wineglass to your nose and inhale the aromas. What can you detect?
Perhaps the popcorn oak and green pear of our Chardonnay or clove, cinnamon and rosemary in our Pinot Noir…
Hear the clink of wineglasses as you cheers with a friend.
Now feel the touch of the glass against your lips and the texture of the wine as it hits your tongue.
How does it feel? Perhaps silky, smooth or velvety.
Now taste and savour the flavours. Is there notes of liquorish. perhaps pears or peach?
Ahhhhhhhh. That’s your sigh of satisfaction.
Now from this mindful wine experience do you a desire yet another one of our wines?
Of course this mindful wine experience can take place at one of the many wineries Yarra Valley has to offer. Perhaps you can find your unicorn with us.
