True to the Wayward Child philosophy, Bastion is a sweet fortified wine that steps outside the usual Yarra Valley playbook. Its inspiration comes from the ‘Vins Doux Naturels’ of southern France, wines prized for their perfume, richness, and vibrant freshness.

The primary fermentation is completed in full before the wine is aged for an extended period in old oak barrels. Just prior to bottling, it is sweetened and fortified with spirit, creating a distinctive Yarra Valley expression of this classic style.

Lush and fragrant, Bastion shows flavours of sweet dark cherry, cherry liqueur, and stewed plum, threaded with a savoury twist of fennel seed and licorice. Despite its sweetness, a bright line of freshness keeps the wine lively and moreish.
