In celebration of Mother’s Day we spoke to two of our favourite mums for motherly advice on motherhood and premium Yarra Valley Wines.
Hordes of families descend upon Yarra Valley Wineries this weekend to celebrate that one special person in their lives – Mum.
And truly is there any better person to turn to in life for advice and well…pretty much everything, than mum?
So to continue the celebrations we turn to a couple of our favourite mums – Katherine Bryan, our Cellar Door Host and mum to twin boys Jack and Will (12) and Meg Brodtmann, our Senior Winemaker and mum to Lily (13) and Luca (11) – for some motherly advice on motherhood, present ideas and our premium Yarra Valley Wines.
Hello, Meg and Katherine, with both of you being mums to two kids near teens – you’ve both got some mum experience under your belt, what advice would you give to a new mum?
Katherine: As a mum of twins, my advice is to sleep when the baby is sleeping no matter what needs doing and NEVER wake a sleeping baby.
Meg: Don’t listen to advice, just love them.
What would be your ideal Mother’s Day present from your family? (Take note kids!)
Katherine: Spending time with my boys and sharing good wine with my mum. (A cheeky sleep in would be great too!)
Meg: A trip to Piedmont with the family (failing that, a pair of Adidas Gazelles)
Of course it’s not just motherhood you know all about, you are also both purveyors of premium Yarra Valley wines – so what advice can you give us?
Katherine: Wine is meant to be savoured, enjoy every moment.
Meg: Just enjoy it.
So you are about to sit down with your favourite bottle of Helen & Joey’s wine, what is it and what food are you matching with it?
Katherine: My favourite wine is the Late Harvest L’Amour and I would pair it with a glorious cheese plate.
Meg: The 2015 Alena Cabernet Sauvignon enjoyed with slow cooked beef short ribs with parmesan loaded polenta -that’s what we will be having for lunch on Mother’s Day.
So are there any similarities between motherhood and wine?
Katherine: Being a mother is definitely like a good wine, we get better and more beautiful with age. Motherhood and wine go hand in hand, I’m certain many mothers will agree to that… Happy Mothers Day to all the beautiful mothers here and the ones looking over us xx
Meg: Treat your wine with the same love as you treat your children. It will reward you!
Thanks ladies for imparting your wisdom on motherhood and wine!
To all the mums out there – we salute you. We hope you got to enjoy a fine bottle of wine with your loved ones this Mother’s Day.
