Helen & Joey Winemaker:
Meg Brodtmann MW

Born and bred in Melbourne, Meg Brodtmann MW came to wine from a background as a medical research scientist. While completing her Wine Science degree from Adelaide University, Meg worked six vintages in Australia, five of them in Melbourne’s own Yarra Valley wine region.

Upon graduation Meg became a winemaker with a global wine consultancy. In this role Meg worked across Europe for just over half a decade, making wine in a list of countries so long it reads like all of the entrants of the Eurovision Song Contest (appendix 1). Somewhere in between all of this, Meg also succeeded in completing the Institute of Masters of Wine rigorous MW (Master of Wine) qualification, the first Australian born woman to do so.

Meg continued as a consulting winemaker for another half decade in South America, before returning home to Melbourne to raise a family. Since re-establishing in Australia, Meg has combined teaching and examining for WSET, intermittent wine making, consulting to Australian wine businesses and running a wine export business with her husband.

Meg has consulted to Helen and Joey Estate since 2014. In September 2016 Meg became the full-time senior wine maker to the estate, the final step in Meg’s full coming home to the Yarra. Meg’s appointment to this role is both validation of the high aspiration of Helen & Joey Estate, as well as a key part of building the capacity to achieve our aspirations.
